Visit from Northern Ireland Institute for the Blind
It was a very exciting day yesterday for the pupils in Ballymoyer! We had two very special visitors: Hazel Flanagan and her Guide Dog 'Kelty'.
The Primary 5 pupils recently wrote letters to the RNIB and awaited in great anticipation for replies. The children's excitement was palpable when some big brown envelopes arrived in our school and they received the news that we were to have a visit from Hazel Flanagan and her adorable guide dog.
During her visit, Hazel showed the children her Braille typewriter and gave them some secret messages to decode. The pupils asked her about her blindness and how Kelty helped her to overcome her difficulties. It was a fascinating visit for the children and one that they will always remember.
Thanks to Hazel, her assistant Jane (and to Kelty) for giving our children an unforgettable insight into the life of a blind person.
